Pain Management
with Sanaa Zaki and Gabrielle Musk
Next session: Date to be advised
The negative physiological effects of poorly-controlled pain are well documented and as veterinarians we recognise the importance of using effective pain relief strategies both with respect to disease management and patient care and well-being.
This course is designed for veterinarians who want to improve pain management in their practice. It provides an opportunity for participants to refresh and consolidate their knowledge of pain physiology and analgesic pharmacology. The modules cover both new and old drugs and techniques, providing the veterinarian with the necessary armament for tackling pain in small animal patients. The different classes of analgesic drugs are discussed in terms of their mode of action, side effects and methods of administration. The modules focus on basic theory and principles, and practical easy to learn techniques. Learning is enhanced through the use of images and videos to demonstrate techniques and offer clinical case examples.
Each module also refers to relevant articles from the scientific literature and helps participants develop a sound understanding with the use of case studies and self assessment.
