As much as 75 percent of new or re-emerging diseases affecting humans are of animal origin, and the connectedness of animals, humans and the environment becomes evident in the consequences of a health epidemic - such as the Zika virus, that is carried by mosquitoes and has spread to many regions of the world. With the advent of new infectious diseases, climate change and a shifting political landscape, Professor Michael Lairmore, Dean of the top-ranked School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California Davis implores veterinarians, physicians, scientists, and other health and environmental professionals to adapt, and be prepared to meet these global challenges
