Sceptic’s Guide to Veterinary Joint Supplements WebinarLIVE!

As veterinary professionals, we pride ourselves on being scientists, but are we truly sceptical in our approach to our painful patients, or are we so desperate to find the Holy Grail—a powerful treatment with no side-effects—that we view the published literature through rose-tinted glasses?

While leading pain clinics like the Mayo Clinic prioritise non-pharmacological approaches, veterinary medicine has not followed suit. Instead, prescription drugs and supplements almost always dominate treatment plans. Bizarrely, this polypharmacy approach is seemingly celebrated within the veterinary profession, while therapies which take centre stage in human healthcare, namely a healthy diet, physical therapy and lifestyle management, are routinely devalued.

In this presentation, join Dr. Mike Farrell—a passionate orthopaedic clinician—as he reviews the evidence for and against veterinary joint supplements. These are some of the questions we’ll answer:

  • How much difference does weight loss make?
  • How do we spot hyped claims?
  • What advice should we offer our clients about joint supplements?
