C&T is an abbreviation for Control & Therapy, the name of the veterinary publication. Articles published in this series are referred to as C&Ts or Perspectives.
No. The C&T Series is unique in the world in that it is a veterinary forum rather than a peer-reviewed journal. And that is one of the secrets of its success and why it has not only endured but flourished for over 50 years till today: it contains practical articles generally written by vets for vets.
Read the Origin of the C&T Series by Dr Tom Hungerford published in February 2003 where Tom sets out the philosophy behind this invaluable publication and answers that question and others regarding the quality of the articles published.
Rest assured that the articles are read by our Veterinary Editors before publication so, if they have any concerns, the author is contacted before publication. These editors between them have enormous experience and expertise in veterinary practice. They also have access to veterinary specialists around the world. Often, an invited specialist will provide a commentary to enhance the C&T article.
Yes, anyone can submit an article for publication regardless of whether you are a CVE member or not. We encourage articles from vets, vet nurses, vet technicians and affiliated professionals. In fact, if an article has merit, we also publish C&Ts from members of the public interested in animal welfare. Read an example here from Sue England: C&T No. 5638 Cat wheels to exercise cats (and possibly small dogs) published in 2017.
No, we have no specific guidelines as such e.g. word count. We just ask contributing authors to aim their articles at the busy vet, vet nurse or vet technician in practice and to keep them concise, pithy and practical. Include all necessary information such as full details about drugs and dose rates and any accompanying information that would assist the reader e.g. Lab results.
Send your article in WORD and include:
Many contributors welcome contact from readers and are happy to include their full contact details; some specifically invite feedback.
Yes. We actively encourage replies and comments, published in the following issue, to stimulate debate and to encourage a range of viewpoints.
Yes. We encourage the inclusion of everything that enhances the article. The C&T eBook allows us to include multi-media in the digital version of each issue.
No. The Centre for Veterinary Education is a not-for-profit membership-based organisation with limited funds. The forum exists to share veterinary knowledge and improve the welfare of animals everywhere and therefore is ‘veterinary altruism in action’.
Our contributors enjoy and value being involved with this much-loved forum. Seeing their article published and knowing they are helping their colleagues is considered a reward in itself. They are following in the footsteps of giants – selfless vets dedicated to sharing their knowledge and passing on ‘tips and tricks’ to the next generation.
The C&T is published quarterly. In general, to be fair to contributors, we publish in order of receipt unless the editors decide that a particular article should be published immediately e.g. something extremely topical, seasonal or just too good to wait! In the last few years we have had a bit of a ‘publishing queue’. Although as one contributor commented: That is an enviable ‘problem’ to have. However, to get these articles out in a timely fashion, we increased the number of pages per issue to decrease this queue as quickly as possible.
Yes. Rest assured that you will be sent the final version to approve before publication. That allows an opportunity to check for any glaring errors or omissions or to update the content.
All past C&T articles can be found in the CVeLibrary. This comprehensive depository contains every C&T article ever published.
You can search for a video either by selecting a series title from the drop-down 'Series' menu, or by entering a search 'keyword'. Videos will display from newest to oldest.
While some videos are free for public access, the majority of our videos are for members only. The Video Library is one of the CVE's great member-benefits - to enjoy the CVE's Video Library consider joining the CVE today.
Videos will be available in the Video Library 2 months following an event.
No but you can stream them from our website. Participants who attend an event however will be sent links to lectures following the event* and these can be downloaded. (*Note: Providing we have consent from speakers to do so, and the Tech Gods allow recording on the day!)
