Brachycephalic breeds have significantly increased popularity over recent years, indeed the French Bulldog is now the most popular breed in the UK and one of the most popular breeds in Australia and New Zealand.

Though very cute these breeds do have a number of serious health issues and this lecture looks at Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome. The phenotype of the brachycephalic dogs includes the typical flattened face which has a major impact on the dog's ability to breathe.

This lecture covers history, diagnostic techniques as well as surgical treatment - examining techniques for staphylectomy (soft palate resection), tonsil removal, resection of oedematous laryneal ventricles and nasal alarplasty and most importantly how best to avoid of complications when undertaking surgery on these animals.
