This one-day Avian and Exotic Animal course presented by the well-known Australian avian veterinarian Dr Mike Cannon, in Canberra in May, and at Port Macquarie in November, 2009, focused on the treatment of birds, reptiles and exotic mammals such as rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, rats and mice.

The objective of this course was to present the latest up-to-date clinical information with case reports and discussion in a format that can be readily applied in practice.

The sessions included:

  • Clinical Examination: The patient has arrived, what do I do now? What you and your staff can do to begin the process of arriving at a diagnosis when an avian or exotic patient presents for a diagnosis.
  • Diagnostics: Clinical Pathology and Imaging - case reports and discussion to demonstrate how to use these diagnostic modalities effectively in a practice.
  • Common problems in avian, reptilian and small mammalian patients - further case reports and discussion of common presentations in birds, reptiles, rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, rats and mice.
