Dealing with the Emergency Cat


This podcast will talk about initial assessment and stabilisation of the collapsed cat, focussing on assessment for fluid deficits, management of hypoerfusion and use of emergency diagnostics including point of care ultrasound.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this lecture participants will:

  • understand how to assess cats for hypoperfusion and know the clinical signs associated with this
  • have an understanding of the use of easily available diagnostics, know when to use them and how to interpret common abnormalities
  • be able to manage hypo perfusion and assess response to therapy

Sophie graduated before Google existed and has worked at the Animal Health Trust, The Royal Veterinary College as well as mixed practice in Mid Wales.  Her most recent role has been at Langford Vets where she developed the ICU into a first class unit and created the (joint) first PG Diploma awarding internship in the UK. Her passion is teamwork and empowering staff to achieve the best for their patients through lifelong career development, entrenching education into work and practical application of evidence based medicine.
