Gordon graduated in 1996 from the University of Queensland. After two years in dairy practice in Victoria, he moved to small animal medicine in 1998, working in Brisbane, England and Sydney. In 2003 he commenced a residency in small animal surgery at Murdoch University, completing it in 2005, then moved to Rivergum Referral Services. He was awarded his Fellowship in small animal surgery and became a registered specialist in 2008 when he moved back to the Gold Coast where he has been working at Veterinary Specialist Services ever since. He became a director of VSS in 2013. Gordon is currently the head of the ANZCVS small animal surgery chapter examination committee.
