Innes graduated from the University of Melbourne with first degree honours in Veterinary Science. After a period in general and emergency practice, she completed an anaesthesia internship at the University of Melbourne. Innes then completed specialist veterinary anaesthesia residency training at the Animal Health Trust, Newmarket UK. Innes has worked as a clinical anaesthetist at referral hospitals both here and in the UK, including the Universities of Melbourne, Sydney, Cambridge and at James Cook University. She is currently the veterinary anaesthetist for a cardiothoracic research facility at the University of Sydney. Innes has a longstanding special interest in treating pain to improve the welfare of animals, both small and large. She established pain management clinics at referral hospitals and completed formal training in western medical acupuncture to enhance the treatment of both acute and chronic pain. She is passionate about improving the abilities of both veterinarians and nurses to manage pain confidently and successfully in their patients.
