Phil McManus

Phil McManus is a Professor of Urban and Environmental Geography at the University of Sydney’s School of Geosciences.  He has a research interest in human-animal relations, focused on the thoroughbred breeding and racing industry and its impacts.  Phil is the author of over 100 publications, including The Global Horseracing Industry: Social, economic, environmental and ethical perspectives (Routledge, 2013) and numerous refereed journal articles about various aspects of thoroughbred breeding and racing.  He is a former President of both the Institute of Australian Geographers and the Geographical Society of NSW, and was the Head of School of Geosciences from 2015-June 2019.
