Understanding the Importance of Pain in Behavioural Medicine
The recognition of the importance of pain for veterinary patients is relatively recent.
There is still some resistance to accepting the relevance of pain in the onset and progression of behavioural signs in companion animals but research into the importance of analgesia in both a surgical and medical context is beginning to help to turn the tide. Recent publications have highlighted the importance of considering pain when investigating behavioural change and this webinar will consider some of the behavioural presentations which alert us to the potential of pain as a contributing factor. It will also discuss the importance of analgesia when dealing with acute pain in relation to potential long term considerations and look at the importance of a multi-modal approach to the management of chronic pain.
