In this lecture, Ava will briefly review the main pathophysiology of DKA and touch on the diagnostics required in managing feline and canine DKA patient.

The bulk of the learning session will tackle the details of in-hospital patient care: What fluid plan? Which insulin plan (with some coverage of less intensive plans)? How to address electrolyte imbalances? What monitoring is required? What are the treatment targets?

We will also touch on managing non-conventional DKA patients, such as euglycemic DKA patients and ketotic patients without hyperglycemia.
